High-quality media research and production in the Maldives

NARC

AHMED SHAFEEU (Interviewer, producer, director)

After graduating from a general hotel services course from the Institute of Hotel and Catering, Narc, as he's popularly called, worked for two years in the hospitality industry before landing up in media production to pursue his long-term interest in film and filmmaking.

In 2004, Narc completed a 3-week social worker training programme on domestic violence and violence against women, and also participated in a behaviour change communication workshop run by UNFPA.

In 2006, Narc participated in a BBC-run journalism training programme.

He co-wrote and directed a theatrically-released Maldivian feature film Edhi Edhi Hoadheemay and worked on several music videos.

After joining the Club Hulhevi team, Narc directed a much-acclaimed 20-minute child sexual abuse drama You Don't Know Me for UNICEF, eliciting extraordinary performances from a cast of non-actors.

His input increases with every assignment and, in a recent documentary on male participation in reproductive health, for UNFPA, his sensitive approach resulted in a host of unusually frank interviews, which have shed insight into the complexities of Maldivian masculinity.

Narc was the local producer for TVE's tsunami-documentary Trouble in Paradise, which was shown on 30 December 2005 on BBC World's Life series.
