Al has a First Class Honours BA in Film Television and Radio Studies from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom.

He has been photographing and editing feature films, documentaries and music videos for more than a decade.

Al undertook a journalism training course run by Thomson Foundation of UK, and won a British Council short story competition.

He has also written feature-length screenplays in English and Dhivehi, the Maldivian language.

Al has travelled throughout the Maldives in connection with his work.

Al has also backpacked and filmed in the India, Nepal, and Tibet, and thrice trekked up to the 5,600-metre Kala Pattar in the Everest region.

Al has a passion for international independent and art cinema and also a thing for barren, windswept mountain terrain.
